Nigerian Woman Who Went Missing After Arriving in Doha Found Safe

A 37-year-old Nigerian woman who became unreachable after arriving in Doha has been found safe, her brother confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES.

Saratu Jibo Yusuf’s brother, Jonathan Jibo, said she had fallen ill and was taken to hospital from the airport. He thanked Nigerians who helped publicise the family’s concerns, along with the Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Qatar Airways and Michael Achimugu, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s director of public affairs and consumer protection.

Yusuf had travelled from Lagos to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on September 1. Her last contact with her family came through WhatsApp while she was using the aircraft’s Wi-Fi. A family friend waiting at the airport could not find her, and the family later learned from the airline and airport authorities that she had collected her luggage and left the terminal.

My sister has been found today. She was sick and was taken to the hospital from the airport.

Achimugu said on X that he had spoken directly with Yusuf and confirmed that she was safe. He said Customs had held her mobile phone and international passport while officials sought to clarify some issues, leaving her unable to contact anyone during the process. She was later cleared and released, regained her belongings and contacted her family.

Achimugu also credited Nigerian national Yusuf Adesoga with helping locate her after visiting security agencies in Doha and tracking her to where she was found.
