Jibo family thanks Nigerians and embassy after sister found safe in Doha

Saratu Jibo’s family thanked Nigerians and others who helped search for the 37-year-old woman after she disappeared from contact in Doha. Her brother, Jonathan Jibo, said on X that she had been found safe after falling ill and being taken from the airport to a hospital.

“Good news… My sister has been found today, she was sick and was taken to the hospital from the airport,” Jonathan wrote. He thanked the Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Michael Achimugu of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, and Qatar Airways for their assistance.

Jibo had travelled from Lagos to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on Tuesday. Her family raised the alarm after she remained unreachable for more than 48 hours. Achimugu had earlier said airline CCTV showed her arriving safely, collecting her luggage and leaving the terminal.

He later said Customs officials had held her mobile phone and international passport while seeking clarification on unspecified issues. According to Achimugu, she was eventually cleared and released, recovered her belongings and contacted her family. Jonathan had earlier said she travelled independently and had arranged accommodation and employment before leaving Nigeria.
