NIS admits 200 students

After a year-long hiatus, the National Institute for Sports (NIS) has officially reopened its doors to aspiring athletes and sports professionals, matriculating 200 students. This marks a significant step in the institute's revitalization, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda' aimed at transforming NIS into a premier global sports institution.

We have completed the administrative phase of repositioning the NIS, and that’s why we’ve opened the admission for the next intakes.

Director-General Comrade Philip Shaibu emphasized that the administrative phase of repositioning the NIS is complete, leading to the reopening of admissions. He highlighted that the current cohort of students is fortunate to be part of this new era, benefiting from a reorganized curriculum and faculty. This strategic overhaul is designed to elevate the institute's standards and output, producing well-equipped coaches and administrators for the future.

This is the first set, and I think they are lucky because we’ve reorganised everything about the institute from the lecturers to the curriculum as part of the plan to turn it into a global institution.

Shaibu’s address to the new intakes stressed the importance of discipline and adherence to the law. He believes that these foundational principles are crucial for nurturing future sports leaders who will contribute positively to the development of sports in Nigeria. The renewed focus on structured education and ethical conduct signals a commitment to rebuilding the institute's reputation and effectiveness.
