Nissan Qashqai e-POWER sets world record for longest range on single tank

Nissan has achieved a new Guinness World Record with its Qashqai e-POWER, demonstrating the system's efficiency by traveling an unprecedented 1,980 kilometers on a single tank of fuel. This feat establishes the Qashqai as the longest-range non-plug-in hybrid SUV (EREV) globally, highlighting the practical advantages of Nissan's e-POWER technology.

The record-setting journey took place in Colombia from July 14 to July 17, 2026. The vehicle traversed a challenging route from the capital, Bogota, to the Caribbean coast, encompassing urban, highway, and mountain driving conditions. The entire process was meticulously monitored and verified by Guinness World Records officials, with the fuel tank sealed before the challenge began and no further refueling or external charging undertaken.

Nissan's innovative e-POWER system differentiates itself from traditional hybrids. In this setup, the gasoline engine functions exclusively as a generator to charge the battery, while the electric motor directly powers the wheels. This design delivers the instant torque and quiet operation characteristic of electric vehicles, eliminating range anxiety and the need for charging, all while maintaining the convenience of a gasoline-powered car.

The latest generation of e-POWER features an integrated 5-in-1 modular powertrain, combining the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer, and increaser. It produces a maximum output of 151kW and utilizes a lithium-ion battery paired with a regenerative braking system. This advanced management system optimizes energy use, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. Since its introduction to Latin America in October 2022, e-POWER has seen significant adoption, with over 40,000 units sold and integrated into models like the Qashqai, Kicks, and X-Trail.
