NLNG, NCDMB unveil research centre for Rivers varsity

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art Research and Innovation Centre for Computer and Electrical Engineering at Rivers State University in Port Harcourt. The unveiling ceremony marked a significant step towards bolstering Nigeria's technological and industrial capabilities.

The new center is designed to significantly enhance the university's capacity for advanced, industry-relevant research. It will also provide specialized training programs and foster the development of technological solutions specifically tailored for Nigeria’s energy and industrial sectors. A key feature will be the institution of a professorial chair, which will function as a fully operational research and development hub. This hub is intended to promote industry-focused research and devise solutions for critical operational challenges, particularly those faced by NLNG. Furthermore, successful research outcomes from the center hold the potential for commercialization, extending their application across various industries.

NLNG Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, represented by Sophia Horsfall, General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, described the project as a strategic investment in Nigeria's future and a testament to NLNG's commitment to sustainable human capital development. Falade emphasized that the center would strengthen the university's ability to produce highly skilled professionals and conduct research directly addressing industry needs, thereby bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.

Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, represented by Director of Capacity Building Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, hailed the groundbreaking as a milestone in the board's Human Capital Development objectives. He stated that the project aligns with the NCDMB's Institutional Strengthening Programme, which aims to build lasting partnerships with higher learning institutions by providing infrastructure that supports teaching, research, innovation, and practical skills development. Ogbe challenged the center to become a leading hub for discovery and technological advancement, encouraging collaboration between students, researchers, and industry.
