NNL set for 17th AGM in Owerri

Owerri, the capital of Imo State, will host the 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria National League (NNL) on Friday, August 21, 2026. Stakeholders of the league are set to converge in the state for the crucial gathering, with preparations for the upcoming 2026/27 season anticipated to dominate the agenda.

All 36 participating clubs are scheduled to arrive in Owerri on Thursday, August 20, and will depart on Saturday, August 22, following the conclusion of the meeting. NNL Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, confirmed that Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has approved the state's bid to host the event. "We are delighted that the sports-loving Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has magnanimously approved NNL’s request to host our AGM. This is one of the most important events in our calendar," Alanana stated.

Key issues expected to be at the forefront of discussions include the strategic roadmap for the new season, the implementation of club licensing regulations, and potential amendments to the league's existing rules and regulations. These deliberations are vital for the smooth and structured progression of the NNL.

Top officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), including President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, are also expected to attend the AGM. The specific venue for the meeting has not yet been announced, but the NNL Secretariat is expected to provide these details to the participating clubs in due course.

Alanana expressed gratitude for Governor Uzodimma's support for football and sports development within Imo State. The previous NNL AGM, the 16th edition, was hosted by the Kaduna State Government in Kaduna State.
