WAFCON: Super Falcons thrash Egypt 6-2 to reach quarter-final

Nigeria's Super Falcons have secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt. The ten-time African champions showcased a dominant offensive performance, netting six goals to ensure their progression to the knockout stage of the tournament.

Asisat Oshoala set the tone by converting a penalty in first-half stoppage time. Gift Monday extended Nigeria's lead in the 55th minute. Although Egypt managed to pull one goal back through N. Ghazy from a penalty, Nigeria quickly re-established their two-goal advantage with a strike from Uchenna Kanu in the 81st minute. Chidinma Ucheibe then converted another penalty in the 84th minute, putting the Super Falcons firmly in control at 4-1.

Egypt's N. Ghazy scored her second goal in the 91st minute, reducing the deficit. However, Nigeria responded decisively with two late goals to complete the rout. Rasheedat Ajibade converted a penalty in the ninth minute of added time, and Joy Omewa added a sixth goal, sealing the emphatic 6-2 win for Nigeria.

The Super Falcons will now face Cameroon, the winners of Group D, in the quarter-finals. The Nigerian team will shift their focus to the knockout stage as they continue their pursuit of another continental championship title.
