NNPC praises NDLEA for ₦2 billion cannabis bust and disowns truck

NNPC Ltd. has distanced itself from a truck intercepted in Ondo State with 2,145 kilograms of cannabis, even as it praised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for the seizure.

The company said preliminary checks showed that the vehicle, registration number MKA 960 XC, belonged neither to NNPC’s official fleet nor to any authorised dealer. Its displayed logo also did not match NNPC Ltd.’s current branding, and the vehicle did not appear in the company’s asset database.

Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh said NNPC was working with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners to determine how the company’s old branding came to be used on the truck. “NNPC Ltd. takes any unauthorised use of its corporate identity seriously, particularly where such use may be associated with unlawful activity,” he said.

The company said it would cooperate with the NDLEA and other security agencies investigating the vehicle’s ownership and operation. It is also reviewing its brand-protection and asset-monitoring procedures and said it would take appropriate steps, including legal action where warranted.

NNPC urged members of the public and relevant authorities to verify through official channels any vehicle claiming an affiliation with the company. Odeh reiterated the company’s commendation of the NDLEA for its work against illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.
