No evidence to suspend Perikatan Nasional, says PAS president

Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang expressed confidence that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition will not face suspension, asserting that no leader has violated its constitution. He stated that there is currently no concrete evidence or compelling arguments to justify such an action against PN.

This statement comes as the Registrar of Societies (RoS) is reviewing official complaints lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), another PN component party. The complaints reportedly include allegations of Bersatu being excluded from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 and concerns about its membership standing within the coalition. The RoS confirmed it is examining these complaints under the Societies Act 1966 and relevant regulations.

When questioned about Bersatu's exclusion from the July 16 meeting, Abdul Hadi questioned the relevance of the complaint, stating, "He is fighting his own party (PN), what does that mean?" He alluded to Bersatu's decision to contest against PN allies in the Negeri Sembilan state election on August 1. However, he declined to elaborate further, deferring the matter to the coalition's meeting attendees.

Abdul Hadi also addressed perceived discrepancies between his statements and those of PN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar regarding Bersatu's membership. He clarified that his comments focused on the implied meaning, stating, "If what Ahmad Samsuri said is from the written constitution, I am speaking from its implied meaning. Bersatu fighting its own party PN, what does that mean?" He further explained that the public could understand the implications of Bersatu competing against its own allies.

Previously, Abdul Hadi had claimed Bersatu's membership in PN automatically lapsed after its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, announced intentions to form a new political coalition. However, Ahmad Samsuri was reported to have stated that Bersatu's position in the coalition remained unchanged despite claims of its membership lapsing.
