No illegal bitcoin mining detected in Tanjung Malim since 2022

Authorities in Tanjung Malim have maintained a vigilant watch against illegal bitcoin mining operations, resulting in no detected activity since 2022. Superintendent Khalid Mohamad, the District Police Chief of Muallim, stated that active monitoring by the police and the sole electricity provider, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has been effective. He explained that TNB reports and electricity consumption checks in residential and commercial premises show usage levels that are reasonable and do not suggest the presence of illegal bitcoin mining. These operations typically require significantly high electricity currents. Khalid Mohamad made these remarks at the Muallim District Police Headquarters during a ceremony for the disposal of seized items, including contraband, gambling paraphernalia, general goods, and bitcoin-related equipment. The disposed items dated from 2018 to the previous year, with a total value of RM55,535. He confirmed that no vacant or abandoned properties in the district have been found to be involved in such activities. The disposal involved 1,081 units related to 30 investigation papers for criminal investigations, including 99 bitcoin-related items. Commercial crime investigations covered 23,476 units from 16 papers, and traffic enforcement dealt with 21 items from 15 papers.
