‘No one Is above the law’- AIG Jimoh warns

Assistant Inspector General of Police Olorundare Jimoh has issued a strong warning against the misuse of legal procedures, asserting that all Nigerians, himself included, are subject to the law. Jimoh made this declaration while receiving a leadership award for his efforts in combating crime across Lagos and Ogun States. He stated, “Every Nigerian should be subject to the same law. And even I, as the Assistant Inspector General of Police, am subject to the same law that every Nigerian is subject to.”

Jimoh criticized the growing trend of individuals and groups conducting public trials and prosecutions on social media, which he believes obstructs proper legal proceedings. He urged people to stop using their platforms to order arrests, direct investigations, or prosecute individuals, emphasizing that "Nothing is an offense except what is stated in the law to be an offense." He warned that such actions are a clear violation of the law and that "the law will definitely catch up with any violators." Jimoh also cautioned against turning legal institutions into a "comedy" on social media platforms, stressing the need to respect the sanctity of the nation's legal system.

Furthermore, AIG Jimoh announced that he has ended the practice of transferring criminal cases from Lagos and Ogun commands to the zonal headquarters since taking office. This move aims to enhance transparency in police operations, with cases now to be handled at the command level where capacity gaps exist. He also commended the leadership of Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, stating that his initiatives are successfully transforming the Nigerian Police Force and earning greater public trust.

Dr. Wole Odunsi, Publisher of National Express Newspapers, presented the award, recognizing Jimoh as "first among equals" for his significant contributions to crime reduction in Lagos and Ogun States. Odunsi noted that crime has been considerably reduced in both states due to Jimoh's efforts, calling him "one of the best AIGs that has ever served here."
