No security for Israel without just solution to Palestinian issue: Egypt FM

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty asserted that lasting security for Israel and the region hinges on a just resolution to the Palestinian issue. Speaking at the Conference of Egyptians Abroad, Abdelatty emphasized that the conflict's core lies in the Palestinian question, and without a fair settlement, neither Israel nor any other nation can achieve stability.

Abdelatty detailed Egypt's current focus on executing the second phase of a plan for the Gaza Strip, reportedly backed by US President Donald Trump. He expressed optimism for Israel's positive response, especially given the Palestinian agreement to this phase. The second phase reportedly involves collecting and inventorying weapons, a complete Israeli withdrawal, unconditional entry of humanitarian aid, and the initiation of early recovery and reconstruction projects.

Reiterating Egypt's firm stance, Abdelatty declared complete rejection and opposition to any plans involving the annexation of the West Bank or the forced displacement of Palestinians. He condemned Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and its actions aimed at fragmenting Palestinian lands and hindering the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Cairo is preparing to host an upcoming meeting of mediators involved in Gaza negotiations, including representatives from Egypt, the United States, Qatar, and Turkey. This meeting aims to reinforce the commitment of all parties to the terms of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which was signed in Sharm el-Sheikh in October. The gathering follows Hamas and other Palestinian factions' agreement to the roadmap for implementing this phase.
