Noah Lyles Runs World-Leading 9.79 in 100 Meters

American sprinter Noah Lyles blazed to a world-leading 9.79 seconds in the 100 meters at the U.S. Championships in New York.

The electrifying performance on Friday night matches Lyles' personal best, which he achieved when securing Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. His new mark eclipses the previous season's best of 9.82 seconds, set by Jamaica's Oblique Seville in June.

Lyles also ran a faster time of 9.76 seconds in the semifinals, but it was disqualified due to excessive tailwind. "I think I made a statement that I am the fastest man in the world," Lyles told the BBC after his dominant run.

This victory marks Lyles' second U.S. 100m championship title. Ronnie Baker secured second place with a time of 9.88 seconds, followed by Kenny Bednarek in third with the same time. Former world champion Christian Coleman finished fourth at 9.93 seconds.

In the women's 100 meters, Sha'Carri Richardson won with a time of 10.77 seconds, equaling her season's best and the second-fastest time globally this season. Kayla White finished second at 10.90 seconds, and Tamari Davis was third at 11.00 seconds. The U.S. Championships continue throughout the weekend.
