Noboa names ex-minister Luis Jaramillo as Ecuador's ambassador to China

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has appointed Luis Alberto Jaramillo Granja, a former minister of Production, Trade, and Fisheries, as the country's new ambassador to China. The decree officially naming Jaramillo was signed by Noboa on Friday, August 14.

Jaramillo takes over from María Soledad Córdova Montero, who had held the ambassadorial post in Beijing since January 2024. The executive decree expressed gratitude for Córdova Montero's service and formally concluded her tenure.

The Chinese government had previously granted its approval, known as "beneplácito," for Jaramillo's appointment on August 13. This diplomatic step signifies China's acceptance of the new envoy.

Jaramillo brings a wealth of experience from various roles within Noboa's administration. Prior to his ministerial position, he served in the Ministry of Finance and headed the National Service of Customs of Ecuador (Senae). His appointment comes just ahead of President Noboa's official visit to China, scheduled between August 16 and 28, during which he is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
