Noi Bai Airport Faces '1-Star Storm' Over New Traffic Lanes

A new traffic management system at Noi Bai International Airport in Vietnam has sparked widespread passenger frustration, leading to a barrage of one-star reviews on Google. The revised lane arrangements, implemented on August 3rd, aim to streamline traffic flow but have instead forced many passengers to walk considerable distances, particularly to access ride-hailing services.

Passengers report having to drag their luggage several hundred meters, sometimes through rain or intense heat, to reach their booked cars. This inconvenience has overshadowed the airport's previous reputation for good organization and service. While the intention was to separate different vehicle types, private cars, taxis, and ride-hailing services, the execution has created significant hardship for travelers.

Previously, private cars and taxis could drop off passengers closer to the terminals. The new system designates specific lanes, with private cars under nine seats allowed closer to the domestic terminal (T1) and international terminal (T2) entrances. However, larger vehicles and ride-hailing services are now directed to areas further away, necessitating long walks for passengers.

Some drivers and passengers have noted initial improvements in traffic flow in certain areas. However, the overwhelming sentiment from many travelers is negative. They criticize the lack of adequate covered walkways or clear signage to guide them to the designated pick-up points, especially during inclement weather. The situation has led to comparisons between the inconvenience of walking for ride-hailing and the higher cost of taxis waiting near the terminals.
