Norris Leads Montmeló Free Practice Ahead of Russell and Piastri

Lando Norris set the pace in the second free practice session for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Barcelona-Catalonia, signaling strong performance from McLaren ahead of the seventh round of the season.

Driving on soft tires, Norris completed the 4.657-kilometer circuit in 1 minute, 15.426 seconds. He edged out his compatriot George Russell of Mercedes by just nine-thousandths of a second. Norris's McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, secured the third-fastest time, trailing Norris by 0.57 seconds.

The session also saw mixed results for Spanish drivers Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso. Sainz, driving for Williams, finished 14th, while two-time world champion Alonso, in an Aston Martin, was 21st. Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, competing for Alpine, placed 15th. Sergio Pérez of Mexico, who did not participate in the morning session, finished 20th for Cadillac.

Norris's dominant performance in this practice session suggests McLaren is competitive at the Montmeló circuit, setting the stage for an intriguing qualifying session and race.
