North Korea Confirms Support for Russia in Ukraine War

North Korea has officially declared its unwavering support for Russia in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Pyongyang's backing for "all of the Russian Federation's domestic and foreign policies is unwavering." This statement came as North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui visited Moscow.

According to KCNA, Russia's actions are aimed at "eliminating the causes of the Ukraine conflict and defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international justice." In return, Moscow has pledged full support to Pyongyang in safeguarding North Korea's sovereignty.

Relations between Russia and North Korea have intensified since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Reports suggest North Korea has been supplying troops and weapons to Russian forces, while Russia has provided food products and technology to the North Korean regime. Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly thanked North Korea for its assistance in a video message on Sunday.

South Korean media suggests that Choe Son Hui's visit to Moscow may be a precursor to a visit by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to Russia. Experts note that following Kim Jong Un's visit to China this year, a trip to Russia would present a strong motivation for him to demonstrate North Korea's emergence from diplomatic isolation.
