North Sulawesi Correctional Facilities Focus on Character Building for Inmates

Correctional authorities in North Sulawesi are actively working to shape the character and foster behavioral change in inmates through structured rehabilitation programs. This initiative aims to ensure that individuals leaving the correctional system are better equipped to reintegrate into society.

Haposan Silalahi, Head of the North Sulawesi Correctional Center Directorate General, stressed the significance of these programs during a visit to the Manado Class IIA Prison. He stated that character building, awareness enhancement, and behavioral modification are crucial components of inmate rehabilitation. The ultimate objective is to facilitate their return to the community as improved persons.

Silalahi affirmed the commitment to ensuring all rehabilitation programs are consistently implemented and adhere to established regulations. Personality development is fostered through various activities designed to strengthen inmates' mental, spiritual, disciplinary, and legal awareness. The goal is to instill a sense of responsibility and encourage positive change.

Krisman Ziliwu, Head of Manado Class IIA Prison, highlighted that personality development is not merely a routine activity but a vital process for genuine transformation. He assured that ongoing evaluations are conducted to optimize the effectiveness of each program. Ziliwu emphasized the prison's dedication to providing humane, targeted, and sustainable rehabilitation, contributing to a higher quality correctional system.

Ziliwu expressed hope that these well-executed personality development programs will empower inmates to enhance their self-worth, develop a stronger sense of accountability for their actions, and prepare themselves for a positive future in society. The visit by the regional head also served as an opportunity to strengthen synergy and oversight within the correctional facilities in Manado.
