North Sumatra Governor Opens New School Year, Urges Respect for Teachers

North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution officially opened the new school year's orientation for over 130,000 new students across the province. Speaking at SMA Negeri 1 Binjai, Nasution stressed the importance of discipline, honesty, and respect for teachers and parents.

He also emphasized that physical violence has no place in schools, advocating for educational approaches and constructive feedback over punitive measures.

The governor underscored the national priority placed on education by President Prabowo Subianto, noting ongoing efforts to improve facilities and build new schools. "You are the ones who will make Indonesia Gold 2045. We from the North Sumatra Provincial Government are committed to improving the quality of education by building, rehabilitating, and developing superior schools," he said.

To support this commitment, the provincial government plans to construct 120 new classrooms, rehabilitate 189 existing ones, develop specialized schools, and implement free education programs in priority areas. Head of the North Sumatra Education Office, Alexander Sinulingga, reported that the orientation activities, running from July 13 to 17, 2026, involve 749 schools and utilize both in-person and online formats.
