Northern and Central Vietnam Face Intense Heatwave, Temperatures to Exceed 40°C

Vietnam is bracing for a severe heatwave, with widespread intense heat forecast for northern and central regions on June 22. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that the intensity of the heat will be stronger than in previous days, with some areas in the central region expected to record temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, June 21, the northern midlands and delta regions experienced hot weather, with peak temperatures reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius and some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. In the central region, from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, temperatures were a scorching 37-39 degrees Celsius, with seven locations, including Xuan Loc (Thanh Hoa), Con Cuong and Vinh (Nghe An), Huong Khe (Ha Tinh), and Dong Ha (Quang Tri), recording temperatures above 39 degrees Celsius.

Today, June 22, the heat is expected to expand across most of northern Vietnam, excluding Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces, with temperatures ranging from 36-39 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius. Hanoi, Ninh Binh, and Hung Yen are particularly forecast to experience intense heat in many areas above 39 degrees Celsius. This heatwave in the north is predicted to persist until June 24-25, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possibly occurring on the evening and night of June 25. Rain is expected to increase in the northern mountainous and midland regions on June 26-27.

For central Vietnam, the forecast indicates continued hot to severely hot conditions from Hue to Da Nang and eastern parts of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak provinces, with temperatures between 36-38 degrees Celsius and some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius. The severe heat is expected to persist in the central region, particularly from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, until June 27-28. After this period, the heat is expected to gradually subside, though hot weather will continue.
