Northern Vietnam Faces Flood and Landslide Risks Amid Heavy Rain

Northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa province are bracing for continued heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions on August 28. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued warnings for thunderstorms, localized downpours, whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts across these regions.

Residents in five northern mountainous provinces, Lai Châu, Điện Biên, Sơn La, Phú Thọ, and Tuyên Quang, are particularly at risk. These areas have experienced significant rainfall in recent days, with some locations recording over 80 mm in a single night. Soil moisture levels in these provinces are nearing saturation, increasing the danger of landslides and flash floods.

The forecast indicates scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall amounts ranging from 10 to 30 mm, and locally exceeding 70 mm, primarily concentrated in the late afternoon and evening. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting advises caution, urging people to be prepared for the potential hazards associated with these storms.
