Northwest University expels 34 students for exam cheating

Northwest University, located in Kano State, Nigeria, has taken decisive action against academic dishonesty by expelling 34 students. The university's Senate approved the expulsion of these students following their involvement in examination misconduct during the Second Semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.

The decision was made during the university's 66th statutory meeting, held on June 17 and 18, 2026. The Senate considered recommendations from its Committee on Examination Misconduct, which investigated the cases arising from the examination period.

This action aligns with the university's commitment to upholding academic integrity. The expulsions are in accordance with the regulations outlined in the Students' Handbook concerning examination misconduct. The university reiterated its dedication to maintaining high academic standards and urged all students to strictly adhere to the established rules and regulations governing examinations.

Beyond the 34 expulsions, the university also imposed other sanctions. Eighteen students were rusticated, meaning they were suspended for a period. Additionally, 22 students received warning letters for various examination-related offenses. In a case where a student's innocence was established after review, Rukayya Ahmad Zukuri was exonerated.
