Nova TV Host Reveals the Marital Challenge She Faced: “If We Survived That...”

A child-free weekend did not bring Anja Alavanja Viljevac and her husband a quiet break. Instead, they returned to Sljeme, turning another hike into what the Nova TV host jokingly described as a test of their marriage.

Alavanja, 43, shared a photograph with Vedran Viljevac on social media and highlighted his reaction when he realized they were heading to the same mountain again. “Damn, do we have to go to Sljeme every time we’re alone?” she said he asked.

Her answer was just as playful: “We do. This time I left the water bottles at home. If our marriage survived that... Bikča conquered in a shaky hour and 15 minutes. Shaky result, strong marriage.” The joke referred to the climb and the couple’s lack of proper preparation. Her conclusion was clear: the hike may have been difficult, but the marriage endured.

Alavanja began her relationship with Vedran after divorcing her first husband, Željko Romac, with whom she has sons Jakov and Ivor. She and Vedran, an economist and football coach, have another son, Dan, who was born in April 2021. They married on Sept. 11 that year at Hugo’s bar on Jarun in Zagreb, in front of about 70 guests.

Their five-month-old son stayed with Vedran’s mother during the wedding, although Anja briefly left the celebration to feed him. She later said Dan was born three weeks early and that she went to hospital before she had finished preparing for his arrival. She returned to work three weeks after giving birth, filming the HRT programme “Zdravo je znati.” Her television career began in 2003 with Nova TV’s “Story Supernova,” which led to a professional role at the station.
