NPFL: 3SC opens season with 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos FC

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan commenced their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with an encouraging 2-1 victory over newly promoted Inter Lagos FC. The match took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

3SC took an early lead in the 15th minute when Lucky Emmanuel found the back of the net from close range. Inter Lagos managed to equalize in the 33rd minute through Uchenna Njoku, who capitalized on a defensive error. However, 3SC regained their advantage just before halftime. Jamiu Arowolo of Inter Lagos was penalized for fouling Lucky Emmanuel in the box, and Sodiq Ibrahim calmly converted the resulting penalty in the 45th minute.

In the second half, 3SC had an opportunity to extend their lead from the penalty spot, but Adams Mustapha failed to convert. The score remained 2-1 until the final whistle. This win serves as a significant morale boost for 3SC, especially as they are set to compete in continental football this season following a strong performance in the previous NPFL campaign.

The Ibadan-based club secured their return to continental competition after a 27-year hiatus by finishing third in the league last season. This marked their highest league position in over a decade and signaled a major resurgence for one of Nigeria's historic football clubs.
