NPP begins vetting 47 aspirants for 2026 national elections

The New Patriotic Party began vetting 47 aspirants on Monday for its 2026 National Officers Elections, after nominations closed with fewer completed applications than expected.

The four-day exercise, conducted by the National Officers Elections Committee, is scheduled to end on Thursday, September 3. The committee said 50 people initially picked nomination forms, but only 47 submitted completed forms before the 6 p.m. Saturday deadline.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako withdrew from the National Chairperson contest before nominations closed. Evans Kodom also left the race for National Communications Director after accompanying Dennis Miracles Aboagye to file his nomination. The committee said Aboagye then became the only aspirant for that position, although he must still pass vetting and meet all other requirements.

Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada did not submit completed forms for the National Women Organiser position and therefore did not qualify for vetting. Candidates for National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer were scheduled for the first day, while the exercise began with aspirants for National Vice Chairperson. Candidates for National Organiser and National Youth Organiser were due to appear the following day.
