NPP must regain trust of businesses through new prosperity agenda – Afoko

Akwentami Paul Afoko, former National Chairman of Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his intention to run for National Chairman again, emphasizing the need to rebuild confidence within the business community. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on July 14, 2026, Afoko stated that the party must return to its traditional role as a promoter of enterprise, innovation, and wealth creation to reconnect with Ghanaians.

To the business community, I say this: the NPP must regain your trust. We know that mistakes were made. We know that some of you felt disappointed.

Afoko acknowledged that some business leaders felt dissatisfied with policies and decisions made during the NPP's previous administration, leading to concerns about economic hardship and uncertainty. He stressed the importance of the party having the courage to listen to these concerns, reflect on past actions, and implement necessary corrections. "To the business community, I say this: the NPP must regain your trust. We know that mistakes were made. We know that some of you felt disappointed," Afoko stated.

He argued that the NPP's historical identity is tied to economic empowerment and private initiative. Afoko plans to champion a "new prosperity agenda" by engaging with key economic players, including traders, manufacturers, farmers, transport operators, artisans, professionals, contractors, technology entrepreneurs, and young start-ups. He believes the NPP remains the "natural home of business, enterprise, innovation, and wealth creation."

Afoko stressed that a strong government-private sector relationship is crucial for job creation, economic stability, and national development.
