NRAA documents customs and traditions in Oman's Wilayat of Manah

A team from Oman's National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) recently concluded a four-day mission in the Wilayat of Manah, focusing on documenting the region's intangible cultural heritage. The project aimed to capture the essence of local customs and traditions through extensive fieldwork.

The core of the mission involved conducting eight documentary interviews with elderly residents and individuals passionate about Manah's cultural legacy. These conversations delved into a wide array of subjects, including the history of local mosques and Quranic schools, the tradition of endowments, women's contributions to culture, traditional craft industries, aspects of Bedouin life, agricultural and irrigation systems, and local folklore. The documentation also extended to local vocabulary, customs, traditions, and social norms that define the community.

This project aligns with broader national objectives to strengthen collaboration between government agencies and local communities. By actively engaging with residents, the NRAA seeks to ensure the preservation of the abundant cultural heritage found within the Wilayat of Manah for future generations. The initiative highlights the importance of recording and safeguarding unique cultural expressions.
