NSCDC Dismisses Officers, Sanctions 79, Arrests 12 over Alleged Illegal Arms Ring

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has implemented significant internal disciplinary measures, dismissing 79 personnel and sanctioning others for various professional misconducts. The corps also announced the arrest of 12 suspects linked to alleged illegal arms dealing and the vandalism of critical national infrastructure.

Commandant General Professor Ahmed Audi stated that these actions reflect a renewed commitment to institutional accountability and discipline. The sanctions affect 75 personnel, including senior and junior officers, for offenses ranging from job racketeering and financial misconduct to absenteeism and acts prejudicial to national security. Penalties include dismissal, compulsory retirement, and recommendations for criminal prosecution.

Among the serious cases highlighted was the February 18 incident in Nasarawa State, where Commander Levi Agada of the NSCDC Mining Marshals was killed. Investigations revealed that two officers, Hosea Habila and Jibrin Labaran, allegedly engaged suspected illegal miners with firearms without authorization during the operation. Both have been dismissed and recommended for prosecution.

Additionally, four officers face separate proceedings for alleged involvement in illegal arms dealing. The NSCDC's Special Intelligence Squad also arrested nine suspects across several states and the Federal Capital Territory for alleged involvement in illegal firearms and ammunition trafficking. The corps continues its campaign against infrastructure vandalism.
