NU Muktamar preparations nearly complete, says Secretary General

Preparations for the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muktamar are nearing completion, according to Saifullah Yusuf, the Secretary General of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU). Yusuf, commonly known as Gus Ipul, stated that over 90 percent of the anticipated participants have already received their official decrees, signed by four key PBNU leaders.

An estimated 3,300 participants, comprising regional and branch officials, are expected at the Muktamar. These participants will receive their decrees bearing the signatures of Rais Aam Miftachul Akhyar, Katib Aam Ahmad Said Asrori, General Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, and Yusuf himself. "As of now, more than 90 percent have been signed by the four parties. So there are no problems," Yusuf said on Friday in Jakarta.

Yusuf refuted claims that many Muktamar participants had not yet received their decrees, assuring that the administrative process was proceeding smoothly. He explained that any delays in issuing decrees were due to incomplete supporting documents from the regional or branch officials. The organizing committee will assist officials with incomplete documentation to ensure all requirements are met before the Muktamar commences. Beyond participant administration, technical preparations for the event are also reported to be nearly finished. "God willing, everything is ready, all are in the preparation process. The Muktamar, NU's highest consultative forum, is held every five years. It serves as a platform for officials and representatives from across the country to evaluate the current leadership's performance, set the organization's direction and programs, and elect new leaders, including the Rais Aam and General Chairman. After considerable discussion regarding the location and schedule over the past two months, the PBNU has finalized the 35th Muktamar to be held from August 27-30, 2026, at the Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java.
