Nuevo León provides over 20 million pesos in aid for people with disabilities

The DIF of Nuevo León, in conjunction with the Public Beneficence Patrimony Administration (APBP), has delivered over 20 million pesos in free functional support to vulnerable individuals, aiming to enhance their quality of life and ensure access to health, mobility, and communication tools.

The initiative, which took place at the State Paralympic Center for High Performance of DIF, was led by Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda and Mariana Rodríguez Cantú. A significant part of the program involved the distribution of 61 state-of-the-art sound processors to 57 patients suffering from profound deafness. This specific aid represented an investment of 20,004,200 pesos, benefiting residents from various municipalities within Nuevo León.

Authorities highlighted the necessity of updating these devices, as the external components of cochlear implants typically wear out and become obsolete every five to seven years. The high cost of these processors can present a significant barrier for families seeking to replace them, potentially jeopardizing patients' continued hearing and oral language development. Prior to the delivery, recipients participated in medical calibration and programming sessions held from August 10 to 13. They will also receive a year of free therapeutic and audiological follow-up care at the Materno Infantil Hospital.

Beyond the sound processors, the event also included the distribution of mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, to individuals from nine municipalities. These efforts are part of the social assistance coordination managed by the state DIF and its municipal counterparts. Mariana Rodríguez emphasized that such programs are crucial for fostering a more inclusive state and expanding opportunities for people with disabilities.

Governor Samuel García expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Beneficence Pública, noting that inter-governmental coordination has been instrumental in broadening healthcare and support programs for the population. Guillermo Roberto Schiaffino Pérez, Director of Legal and Real Estate Patrimony at APBP, affirmed that this delivery exemplifies the positive outcomes achievable through joint efforts between state and federal authorities.
