Núñez promises to win Asunción with ruling party votes

Soledad Núñez, a candidate for Asunción's mayoralty, has sharply criticized the leadership of the ruling Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR) for the capital's current state. She asserts that her platform can win the October municipal elections, even with votes from the ANR's own supporters.

Núñez argues that the city's deterioration affects all residents, regardless of party affiliation. She points out that ANR voters also experience insecurity, poor road conditions, and neglect in the historic center. The election, she contends, should be about a change in management rather than a partisan contest. "I will win with Colorado votes too," she stated, emphasizing that citizens affiliated with the ruling party can choose an opposition alternative.

The candidate also criticized the insufficient measures taken to revitalize the historic center, describing them as "cosmetic" and failing to address the root problems. With over 250,000 square meters abandoned, she links this neglect to urban decay and rising insecurity. Núñez believes that depopulation is the central issue and that superficial fixes like tax reductions or minor works will not suffice without ensuring residents' safety.

Núñez proposes a comprehensive strategy that includes security, housing, employment, education, health, and infrastructure. She questioned the use of borrowed funds for revitalization projects and suggested the municipality should assist property owners in renovating buildings for housing or temporary rentals. Strengthening the Municipal Workshop School for heritage facade restoration is also part of her plan.
