Nurses’ Union Announces Protest in Laayoune Over Conditions Facing Newly Appointed Staff

The Independent Nurses’ Union is preparing to escalate its protest campaign in Laayoune, saying the authorities have continued to ignore the demands of nurses and health technicians, particularly those newly appointed to the city’s university hospital.

The union’s Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra regional office announced a protest for Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, beginning at 11:30 a.m. outside the administration of the Regional Territorial Health Group. It described the demonstration as the first step in a broader program of action.

The union said it had already sent urgent letters to the health group’s administration about the professional and administrative situation of newly appointed nurses and health technicians. It said those letters had not received what it considers a responsible response.

The regional office sharply criticized the handling of the issue. In its view, continued silence, postponements and the absence of clear answers are directly affecting the employees’ professional stability, rights and working conditions. The union held the administration fully responsible for the developments that led it to call the protest.
