NYA engages 200 youth in Ho clean-up exercise

More than 200 young people in Ho, Ghana, actively participated in a large-scale clean-up exercise organized by the Volta Regional branch of the National Youth Authority (NYA) to commemorate International Youth Day.

The youth focused their efforts on the Ho main market and the main lorry station, diligently desilting gutters and sweeping the areas. The initiative aimed to instill a spirit of volunteerism and encourage a proactive interest in environmental protection among the younger generation.

Mr. Yao Semorde, the Volta Regional Director of the NYA, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of patriotism and meaningful contributions to national development. He announced that the NYA would also organize a tree-planting exercise as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. Semorde highlighted that various activities, including a church service and an engagement with the Muslim community, were planned to mark the day, culminating in a national event in Kumasi.

Ms. Esi Nam Agbakpe, an Environmental Health Officer at the Ho Municipal Assembly, commended the NYA's efforts, stressing that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility that extends beyond municipal assemblies. She noted the direct link between a clean environment, good health, and increased productivity. Meanwhile, Mr. Isaac Amenyo, Volta Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), appealed to the Ho Municipal Assembly to undertake re-engineering work on a blocked gutter at the lorry station, which has been causing flooding and sanitation issues.
