Nyong fights back to claim weightlifting silver

Nigerian weightlifter Ruth Nyong staged a dramatic comeback to claim the silver medal in the women's 48kg category at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Nyong initially placed third in the snatch portion of the competition, setting a personal best of 75kg. However, she faced a critical moment when she missed her first two attempts at 93kg in the clean and jerk, putting her on the verge of elimination from medal contention.

With immense pressure, the Nigerian athlete demonstrated remarkable composure. She successfully completed her final clean and jerk attempt, securing the silver medal with a total lift of 168kg. She finished behind India's Mirabai Chanu, who won gold, while Malaysia's Irene Henry took bronze.

Nyong's journey to the podium included a strong start with a 71kg snatch on her first try, followed by her personal best of 75kg.
