Obasanjo to Yayi: Stay focused on 2027 ambition

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, to remain focused on his ambition and seek divine direction.

My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you.

Obasanjo offered this counsel during a visit from Adeola, also known as Yayi, to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta. Adeola sought the former president's support, blessings, and guidance for his electoral aspirations.

"My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you," Obasanjo told Adeola. He recounted his own youthful ambition to study geology and work in the oil industry, which was superseded by a military career he described as God's purpose. "God’s plan was for me to make progress through the military, and He helped me every step of the way," Obasanjo said, praying that Adeola's life purpose would also be fulfilled.

He urged Adeola to pursue his goals with determination, leaving the rest to God and the people. "If anyone has a goal or an aspiration, let them pursue it with determination and leave the rest to God and to our people," Obasanjo added.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Adeola described the visit as fruitful. He stated that Obasanjo shared his expectations for Ogun State's development and provided guidance on governance. Adeola emphasized that he and his team would carefully consider and incorporate the former president's advice into their plans for the 2027 election. Adeola also visited former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun as part of his consultations.
