Obi-Kwankwaso ticket has 70% chance of winning in 2027 — Babachir Lawal

A joint presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso stands a strong chance of winning Nigeria's 2027 presidential election, according to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal. Lawal stated that such a pairing would have a 70% probability of victory, significantly higher than other potential candidates.

In an interview with Symfoni TV, Lawal predicted that current President Bola Tinubu would secure a 50% chance of winning, while former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would lose. "Peter Obi, Kwankwaso, take note, I’m pairing them. I’m pairing them. Individually will be disaster, but I’m pairing them. So I’ll give them, on my own scale, close to like 70 per cent. Lawal's assessment of Abubakar's prospects is particularly harsh. "Definitely, Atiku will lose. He will, and I pray he loses. I’m not the only one, and he will lose," he stated. These remarks come in the wake of Lawal's public disagreement with Abubakar, stemming from Lawal's resignation from the African Democratic Congress. Lawal has repeatedly accused the party's presidential primary, which produced Abubakar as its candidate, of being marred by irregularities.

Lawal's analysis suggests a strategic advantage for Obi and Kwankwaso if they unite, contrasting it with the individual challenges they might face. His predictions offer a glimpse into the potential political landscape and alliances forming ahead of the next general election.
