Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has called for a fusion of modern and Islamic education, asserting that their current separation hinders students' societal contributions and the nation's long-term well-being. "If we fix the education system today, the society and nation we will have 30 years from now will certainly be healthy," he remarked during the inauguration of the Army International Islamic Institute in Dhaka.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman highlighted the disconnect between the two educational systems, noting that "There is no Islamic education within modern education. Again, Islamic education has nothing from modern education." He explained that this dichotomy often limits the societal roles of those educated solely in Islamic traditions. "As a result, those who grow up with an Islamic education often find their role in society limited. That is why integrating modern and Islamic education is so important," he added.

The newly established Army International Islamic Institute aims to bridge this gap. It combines a Cambridge curriculum-based English-medium education system with values-based learning. The institute's objective is to nurture students with knowledge, morality, leadership qualities, and human values, positioning itself as a center for education and the development of ideals and religious morality. The army chief also unveiled foundation plaques for additional Army International Islamic Institutes to be established in seven other locations across Bangladesh, including Barishal, Savar, Bogura, Sylhet, Chattogram, Cumilla, and Jashore.
