Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal-2 has ordered the jailing of four individuals, including former Cox's Bazar-4 Member of Parliament Abdur Rahman Bodi and three retired army officials, in connection with a crimes against humanity case. The charges stem from the alleged killing of Teknaf councilor Ekramul Haque in what prosecutors describe as a staged gunfight in 2018.

The four individuals were presented before the tribunal after arrest warrants were issued. The retired army officials include Colonel Mohammad Anwar Latif Khan, Brigadier General Mahbub Alam (then a lieutenant colonel), and Brigadier General Miftauddin Ahmed (also then a lieutenant colonel). The tribunal ordered their arrest and subsequent jailing.

In a separate but related directive, the tribunal has ordered the publication of notices in two newspapers, compelling seven fugitive accused to surrender. Among those listed as fugitives is ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The other fugitives include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed, retired Major Ruhul Amin, Lieutenant Commander Ashek ur Rahman, and former DGFI officer Squadron Leader Najmus Sakib Mahmud.

Prosecutors informed the tribunal that arrest warrants had been issued for the seven fugitives, but non-execution reports were submitted. The tribunal has scheduled September 7 for the next hearing. The prosecution alleges that Ekramul Haque was abducted on May 26, 2018, and subsequently killed in a staged gunfight. The 11 accused individuals face charges of unlawful detention, abduction, staging a gunfight, murder, and related offenses.
