A car struck a crowd near Berlin's Gay Pride celebrations on Saturday night, killing one person and injuring 16 others, including three with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle later was found abandoned in Tiergarten park.

Police identified a suspect believed to have ties to "Islamist circles" but had not yet made an arrest. A manhunt involving multiple German states and helicopters was underway across the capital on Sunday.

A vehicle entered the Tiergarten park and hit several people.

The attack occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. as hundreds of thousands of people celebrated Christopher Street Day, one of Europe's largest Pride events. Revellers fled the park as sirens wailed and emergency crews rushed to treat victims. Police instructed attendees to leave the area.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the incident as a "horrific act" and vowed that those responsible would face justice. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner called it a brutal attack on a gathering promoting tolerance and peace. Over 2,000 officers had been deployed to secure the event.
