Authorities in Bangladesh have recommended the cancellation of a local fertilizer dealer's license following an investigation into the theft of 225 sacks of fertilizer from a warehouse in Bhurungamari upazila, Kurigram. The probe uncovered evidence of misconduct by Taifur Rahman Mukul, the dealer for Shah Amanat Enterprise.

Disgruntled farmers reportedly broke into the warehouse on August 23, taking the fertilizer. An upazila administration official noted that the situation could have been avoided if distribution had commenced on time as scheduled at 9:00 AM. The investigation committee, formed on August 23, submitted its report the following evening.

The investigation revealed that Mukul allegedly delayed the fertilizer distribution, leading to a large crowd gathering at the warehouse. Furthermore, allegations surfaced that the dealer did not distribute the fertilizer to intended farmers but instead sold it through alternative business channels. Discrepancies were found in cash memos and registers, with evidence suggesting the dealer informed farmers of unavailability while selling to other shopkeepers.

Although Mukul submitted an explanation after receiving a show-cause notice from the upazila agriculture officer, authorities deemed it unsatisfactory. The recommendation to cancel his dealership has been forwarded to the deputy commissioner and will proceed to the divisional commissioner for a final decision after review by the district monitoring committee.
