A woman and her young son were discovered dead in their home in Bagherpara upazila of Jashore, Bangladesh, under suspicious circumstances. Police arrived at the scene late last night after being alerted to the incident. The deceased have been identified as Zubaida Khatun, 32, and her six-year-old son, Jisan.

Condition of the bodies did not appear consistent with suicide and matter had been reported to senior officials.

Initial observations at the scene raised concerns for the authorities. Jisan's hands and legs were reportedly tied with a towel, while Zubaida had a scarf wrapped around her neck, with its ends held in her hands. These details, along with the overall condition of the bodies, led police to question whether the deaths were a murder-suicide or a homicide.

Local veterinary practitioner and relative Akhtar Hossain found the mother and son lying on a bed. He subsequently informed Zubaida's husband, Zakir Hossain, who was at his business establishment at the time. A neighbor suggested the family had no known enemies, speculating that Zubaida might have killed her son before taking her own life.

Bagherpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Jalal Alam stated that the incident was suspicious and did not initially appear to be a suicide. He emphasized that clarity would only come after post-mortem examinations. The bodies have been sent to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsies.
