A mobile journalist for Global Television has accused police in Dhaka of assaulting him and applying a foot to his chest while he was recording an incident involving a woman being attacked. The alleged assault occurred on August 4 at the Bijoy Sarani intersection.

Bulbul Hossain, the journalist, filed a written complaint to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner on August 6. According to his complaint, Hossain was filming police personnel beating a woman after an altercation. He alleges that approximately 20 to 25 police officers then approached him, took him into a police van, and pressured him to delete the footage. When he identified himself as a journalist and refused, Hossain claims the officers assaulted him, hitting his head and beating him after throwing him to the van floor.

He further alleged that one officer placed a foot on his chest, causing suffocation. Hossain stated he was rescued after bystanders responded to his cries for help. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors reportedly found injuries to his head, eye, and chest, advising three days of rest. Hossain is seeking an impartial investigation and action against those responsible, citing video evidence and eyewitness accounts. The DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) confirmed the complaint has been received and an investigation is in progress.
