A tragic collapse of a home's roof and wall during a dinner party in China's southwestern Sichuan province claimed the lives of five people. State broadcaster CCTV reported that the incident occurred in Xinbao village, Changning County, during a banquet celebrating children's successful college entrance exams.

Authorities determined that excessive rainwater had accumulated, placing significant weight on a temporary awning that was securely fastened to a wall. This combined pressure led to the catastrophic failure of both structures, causing them to collapse onto the partygoers.

Of the five fatalities, three died at the scene, while the other two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Seventeen other individuals sustained injuries and received medical treatment. It remains unclear if any children or young people were among those killed or injured.

Sichuan province had issued a heavy rain alert earlier in the week, warning residents about the potential risks of geological disasters. The incident underscores the dangers posed by severe weather conditions and the importance of structural integrity, especially during celebrations.
