An arrest warrant has been issued for a Bangladesh Air Force officer in connection with the enforced disappearance of a prominent opposition leader. Wing Commander Saifur Rahman Saif is now sought by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 for his alleged involvement in the 2012 vanishing of M Ilias Ali, a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The tribunal's decision follows a petition from the prosecution, which presented findings from its investigation. Prosecutor Shyikh Mahdi stated that the investigation officer identified Saifur Rahman's primary involvement in the disappearance of Ali, who was the organizing secretary for the BNP's Sylhet division at the time. The case remains in the investigation stage.

Reports have surfaced on social media suggesting Saifur Rahman is already in custody, but prosecutors have stated they are unaware of his current whereabouts. M Ilias Ali and his driver, Ansar, disappeared on the night of April 17, 2012. Ali was a former member of parliament and held significant positions within the BNP's student wing. Saifur Rahman is the latest to be implicated, following the earlier arrest of former army officer Maj Gen (relieved) Ziaul Ahsan in connection with the case.
