Md Samrat Mondol, a 28-year-old accused in 32 criminal cases, is back in police custody after a daring escape from the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Court lock-up. He was re-arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Mymensingh, less than 24 hours after his flight.

The operation was carried out jointly by Rab-1, CPSC, Gazipur, and Rab-14, CPSC, Mymensingh, based on intelligence gathered by the Rab Headquarters Intelligence Branch and other sources.

Mondol's escape occurred around 2:00 PM yesterday when he managed to slip one hand out of his handcuffs at the court's reception desk. He had been in custody following his arrest on July 19 for involvement in numerous criminal activities. Three other individuals were arrested alongside Mondol during his initial apprehension.

Following the escape, a case was filed under Section 224 of the Penal Code. Rab, acting on intelligence, launched a joint operation involving Rab-1, CPSC Gazipur, and Rab-14, CPSC Mymensingh. The operation successfully apprehended Mondol in the Kashar area of Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station early today.

Captain Iftekhar Ahmed of Rab-1 confirmed the re-arrest. Mondol has since been transferred to Gazipur Sadar Police Station to face further interrogation and legal proceedings.
