In Thakurgaon, Bangladesh, police have arrested Jewel Rana, 25, for the alleged murder of a security guard, Abdur Rahman, 55. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over an unpaid sum of Tk 23,000. Rana, who also worked as a night guard at the car servicing center where Rahman was employed, confronted the victim on August 11, 2026, demanding his wages.

Jewel was dismissed from his job three days before the incident, on Saturday.

According to police, the confrontation turned violent when Rahman informed Rana that Tk 13,000 would be deducted from his dues. This deduction was to cover the cost of a missing windowpane and other equipment that disappeared while Rana was on duty. Rahman stated that Rana would receive the remaining Tk 10,000. However, Rana disputed this, claiming Rahman was also deducting costs for other repairs. The argument escalated, and police allege that Rana fatally assaulted Rahman with a stick, striking him repeatedly on the head and body.

Jewel went to Abdur Rahman around 1:00pm yesterday to collect Tk 23,000 owed to him.

Following the incident, Rana reportedly returned home and confessed to his mother, who then informed his father, Abdul Khalek. Khalek subsequently contacted the police, leading to Rana's arrest early the next morning. Police also seized a stick, a bicycle, and a mobile phone believed to be used in the crime. The victim's son, Ashraful Islam Ratul, has filed a murder case against Rana. The investigating officer stated that legal proceedings are underway to present Rana before the court.

Abdur Rahman told him that Tk 13,000 would be deducted from the amount to cover the cost of repairing a missing windowpane made of Thai glass and other equipment that had gone missing while Jewel was on duty, and that he would be paid the remaining Tk 10,000.
