A brazen daylight robbery occurred in Dhaka's airport area Tuesday morning, where armed assailants intercepted a cash-carrying vehicle and made off with Tk 1.21 crore. The incident also saw a filling station official severely injured after being hacked by the robbers.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Al Amin, 49, the assistant manager of DL Filling Station in Uttara, was transporting the large sum of cash to a Pubali Bank branch. He was accompanied by two colleagues in a covered van when they were accosted by six to seven unidentified men riding three motorcycles. The assailants reportedly blocked their path in front of Crowne Plaza on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.

According to the case statement filed by the filling station's manager, Md Abdul Karim, Al Amin refused to hand over the bag containing the money. In response, one assailant allegedly threatened him with a pistol while another repeatedly hacked him with a machete, inflicting injuries to his left elbow, palm, and leg. The robbers then snatched the bag and fled the scene on their motorcycles.

Al Amin received treatment at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital. Police have launched a coordinated investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station, Kamrul Hasan, stated that CCTV footage from the crime scene has been collected, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects. The filling station manager indicated that their regular cash deposit operations were routine and expressed no suspicion towards any employees.
