Bangladesh's electoral roll has expanded significantly, now listing 128,632,555 registered voters. This increase of 309,315 new voters over the past two months and 18 days was announced by the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday. The updated list is slated for use in the forthcoming local government elections.

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the figures at a press briefing in Dhaka. The voter roll was last updated on May 14, bringing the total to 128,323,240. "We are focusing on the local government elections for now," Ahmed stated, adding that the list could serve as supplementary if election dates shift.

The commission has also forwarded draft codes of conduct for five tiers of local government bodies to the Ministry of Law for review. These codes, which include additional provisions, cover city corporations, district councils, upazila parishads, municipalities, and union parishads. Meanwhile, the EC began distributing nomination papers for the presidential election on Tuesday, with the BNP collecting two sets so far.
