Four officers from the Dhaka district Detective Branch (DB) are in custody in Narayanganj following allegations of attempted abduction and a subsequent mob beating. Three of the officers sustained injuries during the beating by locals and are currently receiving medical treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police guard.

The incident occurred when Sub-Inspector Mamun Matubbar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Aman Ullah, and Constable Kabir allegedly attempted to abduct Amit Hasan Miraj, a 30-year-old man, in the Bhulta Gausia area. The officers, reportedly in plain clothes, confined Miraj in a public toilet, claiming to be investigating an online gambling case. When they tried to force him into a vehicle after finding no evidence on his phone, Miraj shouted for help, attracting a crowd that intervened.

Miraj stated that the accused had previously abducted one of his relatives on June 15, holding him for a ransom of Tk 250,000. He also alleged that a similar abduction occurred about a month prior, suggesting a pattern of impersonating CID or DB members to extort money. The victim's account of the accused posing as CID members was confirmed by Rupganj police.

Constable Akash Ahammed, the fourth officer involved, was arrested in Dhaka early Friday. Police are also searching for two alleged accomplices, driver Abu Bakkar Siddique and Md Selim, who are currently absconding. The Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge confirmed that departmental actions against the detained officers are underway.
