The BNP and its allies were involved in the largest share of electoral violence before, during, and after Bangladesh's 2026 national election, according to a monitoring report by human rights organization Odhikar. The report indicates they were linked to 52 percent of incidents before the election, 53 percent on election day, and a significant 75 percent after the polls. Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies were linked to a smaller percentage of incidents during the respective periods. Odhikar presented its findings at a stakeholder dialogue in Dhaka, based on the work of 50 long-term monitors and 50 short-term observers. The organization described the overall electoral environment as generally peaceful but noted persistent localized violence and intimidation. Major hotspots for this violence were identified as Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bhola, Mymensingh, and Dhaka. The report documented 62 incidents before the election and 32 on election day. Post-election violence, though less frequent, was more severe, with fatalities rising to five from one, serious injuries increasing from 13 to 20, and minor injuries from 15 to 30. Property damage incidents also rose, while threats and intimidation decreased. Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated that individuals within the BNP who committed irregularities are facing action from the party, emphasizing that change can come if leaders avoid violent language and activities, advocating for constructive criticism and discussion.
